Hong Kong Heritage Musuem

Our more cultured friends took us to the museum today for out senior couples outing. The Museum is in a massive building with a lot of things to look at. Opera costumes, art, pottery, history, all things old, some dating back thousands of years. As you can see by our pictures we are not very cultured!

Hong Kong Tennis Classic

Saturday we attended the tennis which was a casual but very fun team tennis tournament. The silver doubles match was Team USA (John McEnroe & Venus Williams) against team Asia Pacific (Li Na & Philippoussis). Team USA won the silver. The gold competition was team Russia vs. team Europe and consisted of a womens single match (Wozniacki- Zvonareva),Zvonareva won. Mens match (Edberg-Kafelnikov), Edberg won and then a mixed doubles match Edberg& Rezai played Kafelnikov & Kirilenko. Team Russia won the gold. It is very fun and ended up being a warm sunny day so we both ended up with burnt faces.

A Sackley Tradition

Everywhere we go we run across Australians. Asia in many cases is the playground or the work place for many Aussies. While in Discovery Bay today I looked into the window of treats and what did my eyes behold, Lamingtons. As a matter of fact they were available in 3 flavours. I thought it was appropriate to see this during the holidays as this is a true memory of growing up.

Peng Chau Island

We took a short ferry ride from Discovery Bay over to Peng Chau and the difference was very dramatic. This Island was much poorer and more authentic, more what you would think of China being. The area was small but there was three little Budhist temples and the houses were small and old. No cars here it was all bikes.

Its hard to see the car park in this building but it is full of bikes. Notice the laundry hanging outside the windows, they even to this where we live outside there windows in the high rises.

Beautiful Discovery Bay

Discovery Bay is about a half hour ferry ride and it was wonderful, quiet, open space and beach. It is a community where a lot of expat's live and was a very upscale residential community with all amenities right in the community.

Happy New Year

This is Time Square, Hong Kong, the place where they count down for New Years. It is only a couple of blocks from where we live so we wandered over to have a look. It was a party, people, music, people, and police, police, police.

This lovely picture of us was taken by some rather intoxicated Australians who quickly volunteered to take our picture.

Hope 2011 is a great year for all!!

My Christmas Without Grandkids

The streets were crowded and the grocery store busy, things you experience when you are grocery shopping on Christmas day. Many wonderful lights and a orchestra playing in the cable car, did help with the spirit. Not to mention the large Christmas tree we put up in our apartment! Christmas was different without family but modern day technology did make it possible for us to watch the grandkids open gifts over skype, not quite the same as being there but very enjoyable non the less. All in all it was a Merry Christmas.
